Israel VS Iran: It IS Your Business!

Yesterday, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman dismissed warnings by the United States government not to attack Iran, saying "[It] is not their business."

Well, he's 100% wrong! And here's why:

It is the business of the United States whether Israel attacks Iran or not. Israel wouldn't exist if it weren't for the United States. The United States has consistently protected Israel through its position on the UN Security Council. The United States has given billions, if not trillions, in foreign aid, training and weaponry to the country of Israel. The very weapons Israel would use to start a conflict were provided by the United States and paid for by American citizens.

Ultimately, whether Israel attacks Iran is the business of not just the United States but every person on this planet. Because everyone is affected by these wars. A war against Iran is potentially so destabilizing to the region, it contains the possibility of plunging the entire globe into a new World War. It wouldn't stop at being a conflict between Israel and Iran. It would immediately and automatically involve the United States. Our business. Russian and China would undoubtedly come to the defense of Iran, as would the entire Arab World. Their business.

The U.S. doesn't have the wherewithal to successfully undertake a war in ONE country. How would we defend ourselves against invasion by China and Russia? How would we defend Israel against concerted attacks by multiple Arab countries?

It's impossible...and to talk of it is irresponsible.

Thankfully, it's all hot air. No sane human leader would truly undertake such an unwinnable endeavor. Plus, our offworld friends have indicated they won't allow it.

What's my point? Well, other than to suggest you not allow yourself to become afraid at this possiblity, I'd encourage you to examine the relationship between the United States and Israel and ask yourself if it's worth our while as a country to continue such unconditional support for a nation whose government is filled with blathering idiots like Lieberman and Netanyahu.

I think we could send a clear message that the United States is interested in peace by publicly excoriating the Israelis for their saber-rattling language. But then, our own politicians engage in it as well.

This is where everyday Americans can band together and speak out. Occupy the message.

DHS reportedly loses explosives in Phoenix airport

Excuse my language, but how fucking stupid is our government, really?

The Department of Homeland Security might need to change their name after this one.  According to TV News Lies, the DHS misplaced their own bomb during a live drill at the Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix last week. 

First of all, live exercise or not, why would these morons plant an actual explosive in an American airport?  Make it look real, tell the drill participants it's real if you have to, but don't use an actual bomb!  Is it me, or does this seem elementary?  Here we are, crawling up on the 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 lie, and they're planting bombs in airports.  For fuck's sake!  Seriously?!

You know, I can only think of one real reason the best and brightest security-leaning minds of this country would plant an actual bomb in an American airport - especially one that mysteriously "disappears".  It's no accident.  Sounds like a false flag in utero to me.

We should do away with the Department of Homeland "Security" - an entity about which NO ONE at any level knows all about.  How much money does it spend?  That's confidential.  Your sentator doesn't even know.  The CIA Director doesn't know.  How many agencies are there?  Well, they're not all on the books.  No one really knows.  How many employees does it have?  Again, NOBODY KNOWS!

But they're keeping us safe.  By planting actual bombs in American airports.  Then losing them.

Chairman of the upper house of Parliament Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloev

at his parliamentary office. The Mayor began the meeting with a

lengthy discourse on Afghanistan, thanking the United States for

its contributions and sacrifices there, and saying that U.S.

activities there were very important "as we enter the third

millennium and the 21st century." Ubaidulloev thought the main

task there was to build a sense of national identity among

ethnically disparate groups, and said the United States was an

example for this. He noted that "war is very dangerous", and

said "we know there is life on other planets, but we must make


peace here first."

It's time to end the death penalty in America

Last week, Amnesty International released it's 2010 report on the use of the death penalty across the globe.  The information should be particularly embarrassing for Americans, as the United States was among the Top 10 countries to use capital punishment.

What could be more humiliating than murdering more prisoners than all but 4 other countries?  Well, the company we're in.  Only China, Iran, North Korea and Yemen killed more in 2010 than the U.S.  We may like to think we're the good guys of the global neighborhood, but we're rubbing elbows with George W. Bush's entire axis of evil.  If one is judged by the company one keeps, we might have to include ourselves on W.'s list, even without taking into account the number of people Barack Obama's America killed last year using the "War on Terror" as an excuse.

Rounding out the list:  Saudi Arabia, Libya, Syria, Bangladesh and Somalia.  It should be noted here that these countries took the lives of around half or fewer prisoners last year than the United States.  I wonder how many war-mongering, death-penalty-supporting social conservatives in America would consider any of the other 9 countries on this Top 10 as having a "culture of life".

Encouraging developments
But there's reason for hope.  Amnesty International notes the global trend is away from using the death penalty. 

At the end of 2010 the global trend towards abolition of the death penalty could not have been clearer... The number of countries that are abolitionist in law or practice has substantially increased over the past decade, rising from 108 in 2001 to 139 in recent years.

Furthermore, in the American state probably most identified with use of the death penalty, Texas, a two-year moratorium has been proposed in the state legislature.  As goes Texas, so goes the nation?  Let's not get carried away.  That said, the state of Illinois just completely abolished capital punishment.  Maybe MLK was right when he said the arc of the moral universe bends toward justice, albeit ever so slowly.

One final glimmer of hope is the recent news that Hospira, Inc. - the only U.S. manufacturer of an essential lethal injection drug - stopped making the drug a year ago, and scarce supplies will soon expire.  We have Italy's opposition to the death penalty to thank here.  (Thank you, Italy!)

Ultimately, you can't fuck for virginity.  You can't fight for peace.  And you certainly can't prove killing is wrong by killing killers.  Let's work together for a less evil America.  Support the movement to abolish the death penalty in your state.  Kansas could be next.  Click here to send a message to Kansas legislators supporting a bill to outlaw capital punishment.

Walking on Sunshine

Continuing the trend of good environmental news stories today, here's one about an invention from the UK.  24-year-old Laurence Kemball-Cook has created Pavegen, a walking surface that gathers some of the kinetic energy released by a person's footsteps and transfers it to a battery to be used for attached lighting.

Now, I know you may be thinking, "So what?" or "big deal".  If so, I would ask you to imagine all the other applications and what-ifs.  For instance, what if this technology were employed on a large scale - say the entire network of New York City sidewalks?  And instead of storing the energy hyper-locally, what if it were harvested through a network and added to the entire energy grid, thereby reducing need for other energy sources in blanket fashion?  What if stadiums used it on their walkways, stairs, and even in seated areas.  Stadium lights could actually flash noticeably brighter with every "We will rock you" boom-boom-clap.

Or what-if the floor of every new house built in the world sent this energy to a power station in the home?

Leave it to the young to save our collective global ass.  God bless 'em.  Unfortunately, innovation and ingenuity of this sort is at best not encouraged and at worst flat-out discouraged in the United States, where it used to be our proudest export.  Unless we can match and surpass the world-changing thinking of other industrialized countries, we will continue our descent into obsolescence.  And maybe that's best for the world since the only exports we're known for lately are war machinery and counterproductive fear-based isolationism. 

Here's the biggest what-if:  What if instead of throwing untold trillion$ at private (read corporate) defense contractors in the military-industrial complex to find a better way to kill the brown people of the planet, we divert ALL the money to enhancing and perfecting technologies like this one to harvest as much energy as possible from 100% clean sources? 

If we can imagine it, we can do it.
